What Is Conveyancing?

Conveyancing is the legal process of transferring the ownership on title of real estate from a seller to a buyer. It is the mandatory process when buying or selling a house or land, which means that every buyer and seller must comply with the processes that a conveyancing professional provides.

In Victoria, Australia, only a licensed conveyancer or a legal practitioner (a lawyer) can handle this legal work. Therefore, both the buyer and seller are required to engage their own legal practitioner or conveyancer (i.e. different conveyancers or legal practitioners for each party) to handle the process.

Far from being a legal checkbox measure, finding the right professional to handle your conveyancing requirements – someone you can talk comfortably with, and someone you can trust – is an important step in ensuring hassle-free transfer of your property, and that each party gets what they want.
